A slip-and-fall event can cause serious, lasting harm

slip fall harm

Falling can cause many reactions in a person and those surrounding the individual. In a minor incident, a person may fall and immediately get back up, feeling embarrassed as those around laugh. Unfortunately, incidents do occur in which a slip-and-fall event can have serious injuries, and the victim cannot immediately get up. In such cases, the event is far from funny.

Sadly, various elements outside the control of Ohio residents could result in a slip-and-fall incident or even a trip-and-fall. For example, if an establishment has a spill left uncleaned or clutter in walkways, it is all too easy for an unsuspecting patron to enter that establishment, not see the hazard, slip or trip, and fall. Depending on the nature of the fall, it is possible for serious injuries to result.

Some common harm that tends to result from such incidents include the following:

  • Cuts or abrasions that could seem minor but could also point to a more significant internal injury
  • Soft tissue damage, such as tears or strains in muscles, ligaments or tendons
  • Broken bones
  • Head trauma
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any of these injuries deserve medical attention, even if a person does not immediately suspect any serious harm. Injury symptoms may not show themselves right away, or the victim may not have the proper medical training to spot a concerning symptom. In the event that individuals suffer serious harm in a slip-and-fall event, compensation from the property owner or operator could be warranted. Discussing the particulars of a premises liability claim with experienced personal injury attorneys may help with such an endeavor.
